A member asked:

My wife is 10 wks pregnant and having severe constipation. tried stool softeners and metamucil. the dr recommended miralax (polyethylene glycol) but we read mixed info. ok?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is fine. Most important, though, is drinking lots of water. The hormones of early pregnancy slow the bowel down, so constipation is a problem. It usually gets better in the second trimester, but then worse again in the late third. When the baby's head is taking up room in the pelvis.
