Melanonychia : Have been under sun lately for prolonged periods, any trauma to nail( is it your index finger or thumb) any new Meds? You will need to be seen by a dermatologist to examine width and intensity of color of line to determine if it could be one of the above causes or from a melanotic mole, Nevis or from a malignant melanoma which can be fatal. http://images.nailsmag.com/post/M-na07disease-3.jpg
