Stone composition: Some patients' stones won't break during lithotripsy. Some stone substances are too hard to be broken by the shock waves. At this point, other surgical options may be considered. Continue to stay hydrated and avoid foods that cause the type of stone you have. Small stones may not cause a problem unless you are feeling them or having problem with your urine.

Fragments too big?: In order to be passed thru the urinary system the stones have to be small. Could be that the fragments are too large to pass. Drinking ALOT of water in an effort to build up the pressure leaving your kidney. This increased pressure may help the fragments to pass
