Telogen effluvium: Your description sounds like telogen effluvium (resting stage hair loss). Male pattern baldness is slowly progressive. Major illness, major surgery can be followed by telogen effluvium. Usually regrows with time. However, it would be wise to consult a dermatologist to investigate this and determine exactly what it is.
