Mucous in the stool: Gastroenteritis can cause lactose intolerance and changes in the stool fauna. I see that you are 57. If you have not already then I you are likely due for a colonoscopy. Other triggers to see a gastroenterologist earlier would be persistent nausea, vomiting, unintentional weight loss, decreased appetite, being too easily sated after eating, black stools and any blood in the stools.
