Foods to avoid: Key is to avoid certain foods like tomato-based products, caffeine, spicy foods, chocolate, hot temperature foods, peppermints or spearmint, and even red meats. Vinegar and citrus will also irritate the stomach. The foods to eat that may promote some healing would be milk, yogurt, cheese-all pasteurized.

Meds most important: Alcohol can cause Gastritis and should be avoided. Coffee, even decaf, increases stomach acid production and should be avoided. Spices, such as chile powder, black and red pepper, increase stomach acid production and should be avoided. Also void late night snacks, smoking, chewing tobacco and over the counter pain meds other than Tylenol (acetaminophen). (Aspirin, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Midol, etc.)
