Mouthguard\retainer?: A mouth guard will have little or no benefit as a retainer and may in fact be harmful if not a custom mouth guard fabricated by your dentist.

Yes: Custom made (not OTC) mouth guard can act as retainer as long as total hours are achieved. Your Orthodotic Specialist will have to properly adjust it for you.
