Generally Yes: Herpes is not the only virus out there that can give you sore in and around your mouth. These sores tend to be self limited and will go away on their own. You could see a physician and they could prescribe you medications depending on the severity of the cold sores. Good oral hygiene and keeping the sores moist with chapstick type meds help. Sores are contagious.
