A member asked:

Im on birthcontrol(over1year), having bleeding in between periods- 4 days in a row&light, never has happened before, what could be the cause/reasoning?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Breakthrough bleedin: You are describing breakthrough bleeding, which is a daily common problem with low-dose OCPs. The uterine lining may become unstable in the middle of the month, so it breaks down and you have bleeding. BTB does NOT mean the birth control is not working, so don't stop your pills. If it keeps happening, you may need to switch pills.
