Period problems: At 41, and probably well before that, a woman's cycles have much more generation of estrogen, since the eggs are older and require more stimulation from the pituitary to ovulate. Just prior to menstruating, the estrogen levels drop suddenly, and the consequence is like "withdrawal" from a strong drug. To minimize this, ask your gyn about starting low dose oral bcp. Minimal cramps and bleeding !
