What amount does the vagina opening (not cervix) stretch during birth ?

As needed: The vaginal opening stretches to an adequate size to pass the baby's head and shoulders. This is approximately 10 cm. However, if there is not enough stretch in the walls during the baby's passage, the vagina can tear or an episiotomy given in order to allow the birth.
