8+ years: 4 years of college with specific requirements, such as physics, biology, organic chemistry, etc. Check w Amer Dent Assn for list of prerequisites. Mead a GPA >3.4. Then 4 years of Dental School. And if you want to specialize you will need to be in top 4% of dental School class to be considered for a specialty residency, which will take another 2-5 years.
