Not an oral med: Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that can be injected or given as a topical patch. It doesn't come in pill form. Some patients take oral mexiletine to control abnormal heart rhythms or to treat chronic pain. This medication is sometimes referred to as Lidocaine in pill form, though that's not strictly accurate. It is available only by Rx from your doctor.
