For whom and why?: It is safe to take the active ingredient in Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Many of the sleep aids on the market are actually just that medicine. However, if is being used except in very rare circumstances to induce sleep, you need to talk to your doc about why you are having problems with sleep and see if an overhaul of your sleep hygiene is in order. Also, refrain form LED light form electronics for 2 hrs before bed.

Many do: This is a common ingredient in most over the counter sleep aids.It does make most people groggy, like alcohol. Over the long term it interferes with attaining the deep restorative sleep that we need to function. In short, you get to sleep but not good sleep. I would review the issue with your doc & see if changing some lifestyle or pre-sleep patterns might help you more.
