Why a build up of sulfatides in the white matter of the brain will cause the myelin sheath to deteriorate?

Build up of any chemical imbalance especially presence of misfolded proteins, can interfere with normal cellular metabolism, and cause repair attempts to fail. Some of these disorders are associated with inflammation, and this too causes damage.
