Yes: The american board of internal medicine (abim.Org) grants board certification to internists and all sub specialists through a rigorous system which requires ongoing maintenance of certification.

Board Certification: There are 24 specialties that are officially recognized for 'board certification.' this list is published by the american board of medical specialties, abms, at www.Ambs.Org. Search for your board here: http://www.Abms.Org/about_abms/member_boards.Aspx watch my video about board certification: http://www.Cosmeticsurg.Net/blog/2009/09/16/board-certification-in-what-specialty-and-by-who/.

Yes.: It is a subspecialty of internal medicine, so there is a separate board operated by the american board of internal medicine (abim), which is the parent organization. There are only 24 member boards of the american board of medical specialties, and it is only these boards and those operated by the aoa which can grant a physician the title "board certified." everything else is fraudulent.
