Yes.: It is a subspecialty of internal medicine, so there is a separate board operated by the american board of internal medicine (abim), which is the parent organization. There are only 24 member boards of the american board of medical specialties, and it is only these boards and those operated by the aoa which can grant a physician the title "board certified." everything else is fraudulent.
