Laxatives: First I should start out by saying that you should be careful with strong laxatives such as senna, as the bowel may become habituated to them any you need them to continue to be regular. Magnesium citrate is quite effective, miralax (polyethylene glycol) is also a good choice. If you have chronic constipation you should be further evaluated for causes such as hypothyroidism.

Fiber: The best way to get your bowels moving safely and reliably is to increase your fiber intake. Best sources are whole grains, fresh fruits and veg. Drinking plenty of water and taking a walk daily can help too. If you do all these without relief try MiraLax (polyethylene glycol) or Citrucel. If these don't help try Dulcolax but best not to take this daily. If no help from these, see your doctor. Good luck!
