A member asked:

E coli isnt fatal yet leads to sepsis, why is this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mistaken: E coli can produce fatal sepsis and or fatal meningoencephalitis. It can also trigger a toxic reaction that shuts down the kidneys (hemolytic uremic syndrome) that can also be fatal. What it does and how it does it vary with the situation.
