Not a guarantee: Although studies have shown that taking Plan B within 24 hours of unprotected sex gives a 95% chance of preventing an unwanted pregnancy, there is still that slim 5% chance that it may not work. If your friend has a body mass index over 25 this can decrease the effectiveness of the pill and if the BMI is over 30 it may not work at all. It does not prevent if you have unprotected sex after the pill.
