A member asked:

What is the preferred treatment for an optic chiasm tumor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Most tumors in the optic chiasm (detected after visual field loss as a clue to due an MRI to locate the tumor and size it) arise from the pituitary gland. A few are cystic remnants of development such as a rathkes pouch. Most will be removed by a neurosurgeon through a transnasal approach while you are asleep. Some require radiation. Discuss this with your neurosugeon.
