Depends: If you are taking antibiotics, you might need a back up method. Some antibiotics increase the metabolism of the birth control pills in the liver so they are cleared from the body faster making them less effective. Talk to your provider for clarification.

Keep hydrated!: You need back up if you are taking antibiotics for an illness since that decreases the efficacy of your pill. You might also need back up if you threw up your pull or missed it due to your illness.
