A member asked:

Why do people having eye surgery have to have their eyes constricted (such as, by use of acetylcholine)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Atropine dilation: A dilated exam is important before cataract surgery to make sure there are no diseases in the back of the eye. For example diabetic reitna problems, glaucoma, or macular degeneration. There is no need to constrict eyes except if having laser for narrow angle glaucoma.
