Olive allergy rare: Allergy to olive fruit is rare -- very rare. This is because olives (canned black olives) are treated with lye to extract the bitterness and it breaks down the potentially allergenic proteins. There is one case of a person allergic to olive tree pollen who became allergic to olives, but that is the only one. You are not likely to have any cross-reaction with black olives.
