A member asked:

Can you tell me if i'm a regular drinker, why am i experiencing symptoms of "alcohol flush syndrome" or allergy?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Not uncommon: People with rosacea flush with alcohol intake as would be many Asians. The former is due to an inflammatory response to an increase in temperature, the latter from a deficiency in an enzyme to breakdown the alcohol. Avoidance or reduction in consumption would be the best approach. There is reason to suspect that those who flush due to the enzyme issue may be at higher risk of cardiac disease.
