Sometimes: While most cases of peripheral neuropathy are not inherited, there are some genetic neuropathies, both dominant and recessive. The most common cause of inherited neuropathy is charcot-marie-tooth disease, of which there are multiple subtypes. Additionally, some people have genetic diseases (such as mitochondrial disease) that include a neuropathy among other symptoms.
