You heard wrong: Not only is it not very bad. It's not bad at all. Some people dislike that it can be messy - but there is absolutely no physical harm to either person. Many women are especially 'horney' during their period for a range of reasons including hormones and the lowered risk of pregnancy. It's up to you and yours and it's okay. Best!
