Any eyelid surgery should be done by an eye surgeon.: For you have any eyelid surgery done for any reason, you always want to make sure that your vision has been checked. If your vision is normal, and that is your baseline value, then you should be in good shape. So look for a certified, oculoplastic surgeon when considering having eyelid surgery done, so that your vision can be checked carefully before/ after. Good luck!

Depends on procedure: I generally refer to oculoplastic specialists for patients who need lid surgery, as they specialize exclusively in surgery of the lids, face and orbit. Some plastic surgeons may be fine. There are risks with any surgery, and the most common ocular complication of surgery that lifts the lids is dry eye. However, many lid problems can negatively impact the eyes, and correction will help the vision.

Not to worry: Most lid surgery will not affect the function of the eye now or in the future.. If this is an especial worry for you (perhaps you know of someone who had a problem), then seek out an oculoplastic surgeon for the surgery you desire as they are especially sensitive to eye function.
