Why does tampons hurt towards the end of my menstrual period?

Lighter flow: This may be occurring because there is less flow at the end of your period. The heavier flow that most people have at the beginning and middle of their periods provides lubrication for the tampon to slide into place more easily.Near the end, the tampon might not be placed in the best position, causing discomfort/pain.You should ask your own doctor to ensure no physical obstruction is present.
