A member asked:

What can happen if a lung infection (possibly, due to mycroplasm organism) goes untreated? how contagious is this?16 yr old male, immune compromised.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mycoplasma: Mycoplasma is not usually an invasive aggressive infection. Yet, if a patient is immunocompromised, any infection can become quite dangerous. I actively treat mycoplasma in the asthmatics that may get much more ill. How aggressively to treat any infection should be an ongoing discussion between patient and doctor based on symptoms, and danger to self and others.
