Anyone who can pay: Ha ha. Couldn't resist. Used to be abdominal MRI was to solve problems brought up by abdominal ct or ultrasound. Now it is a first line test of the abdomen sometimes, especially in children, younger patients and pregnant patients because of radiation concerns.

It can be very usefu: Because it shows early hepatocellular ca. This is very useful in the monitoring of patients with hepatitis. Also some studies that can characterize the tumor or iron deposition as well perhaps vascular lesions are better seen on mri. There is a new technique called dwi this is very useful because it can show early cancers especially in the pancreas. A non contrast dwi is superior to a pre ct.
