Pectus carinatum: Most pediatric patients (less than 18 years of age) can be treated for pectus carinatum with the use of an external chest brace. The brace is not very effective for adult patients. Surgery is an option with very good results. Unfortunately most insurance companies will not cover the cost of surgery since it is considered not medically necessary.
