Preventing UTI: Prevention is the best "medicine" in avoiding uti's: hydration (uop > 2 quarts/24 hours), oral/sexual hygiene, voiding immediately after sex. In cases of recurrent utis in sexually-active, a "pre--coital" ("before sex") antibiotic such as Nitrofurantoin has been shown to be really effective. In post-menopausal women, the use of a low dose vaginal estrogen has been helpful....
