Cough syrups: As long as a cough syrup doesn't contain a decongestant like sudafed, you can take the syrup which won't affect your hypertension. Plain Robitussin (guaifenesin) or robitussindm would be examples.

Cough syrup se: Avoid using cough and cold medicine that contains nsaids (ibuprofen, naproxen) or decongestants, especially pseudoephedrine. These can raise your blood pressure and heart rate.
