Many things: Many things can cause what you are describing. The most common one, in a young woman, is pregnancy. Stress or an ovarian cyst can also temporarily alter your normal, regular menstrual pattern. If you are not pregnant it usually suffices to observe what your body does over the next month(s). Most often your menses will return to normal on their own.
