Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Not enough vitamins: Rickets is due to not enough vitamin d which you can get from sun exposure or dairy products. Microcytic anemia may be due to lack of iron (more typically from blood loss) while macrocytic anemia may be due to lack of folate and/or vitamin b12, found in fruits, vegetables & whole grains. That's why it's so important to eat a varied diet including the colors of the rainbow each day!

Nutrient deficiency: Without a diet and possibly additional supplements rich in vitamin d and iron, both rickets (in children) and anemia may develop. Iron and vitamin d deficiencies are very common.
