How long does it take for a bleeding anal fissure to heal?

Dr. Eric Kaplan answered

Specializes in Colon and Rectal Surgery

Depends: If the fissure is acute and shallow, correction of an abnormal bowel issue will resolve it in 2-3 weeks. A chronic fissure may stop bleeding but may not heal without surgical correction. You need to be properly evaluated with a discussion of your diet, fluid intake, bowel pattern and confirming the diagnosis with followup to confirm actually healing even if the symptoms resolve. See a colorectal.
