Yes....: Your body can get weak from prolonged bed rest. When at bed rest, you may not take deep breaths so you can develop some collapse of the airways called atelectasis. This in turn can lead to pneumonia. Deep breathing exercises can help to prevent this complication. The sooner you get out of bed, the better!
