No: Giardia is not known to spread via the bloodstream. Therefore, it is confined to the small intestine. However, if untreated, the diarrhea caused by Giardia can lead to severe dehydration that could cause neurological deficits. In addition, Giardia infections can result in vitamin B12 deficiency, which can cause neurological disorders as well.

Giardiasis : There is no direct brain involvement. Giardiasis is a waterborne illness caused by Giardia parasite. Sx's – there may be no sx's or diarrhea, oily floating stool, gas, nausea, vomiting & abdominal cramps. If untreated it can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration & weight loss. Diagnosis- via blood test for antibodies & checking stool for parasites. Tx can include metronidazole, tinidazole &
