What do they do for a nerve block for pain?

Help with pain: Epidural steroid injections (esis) are a common treatment option for many forms of back & leg pain. They are integral part of the non-surgical management of sciatica and low back pain. The goal of the injection is pain relief; at times the injection alone is sufficient to provide relief, but commonly an epidural steroid injection is used in combination with a comprehensive rehab program.

Depends: Nerve blocks are commonly performed for many types of pain. The specific details of the block depend on the nerve being injected. Usually local anesthetics and sometimes steroids and other medications may be injected. The injection is usually performed with some sort of imaging modality, either ultrasound or fluoroscopy.
