How long on BC: It usually takes 3-4 month of taking birth control to be in your system to have an effect on acne. Also, there are some birth control types that work better than others (eg, the ones with drospirenone, norethindrone, or norgestimate as the progesterone component). It is also worth looking into spironolactone (this is not a birth control) -- this is another effective option for hormonal acne.
