Best results are : Seen with a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, anti-anxiety medication for ocd, ; tic-reducing medication for tics. Capvay is the 24-hour preparation of conidine. Antibiotics do not lessen acute symptoms of pandas, they treat "strep throat." nimh has a study on antibiotic prophylaxis ; with yale, has a clinical trial of ivig, for which your son may be eligible:http://intramural.Nimh.

Yes: The treatment depends on what phase of the illness the child is in. If the illness is still in the fairly acute stage, treatment consists of about one month of antibiotics that provide strep coverage, usually Amoxicillin or penicillin. If the condition is already into the long term phase (symptoms present months to years), antibiotics but also likely much more other treatments will be needed.

Pandas Txmt.: Streptococcus’ infection • A child can be diagnosed with PANDAS when: o Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or tic symptoms suddenly appear for the first time, OR o The symptoms suddenly get much worse, AND o The symptoms occur during or after a strep infection in the child. • PANDAS is caused by the body’s immune reaction to strep, not the infection. Txmt is preventive antibiotics-here is insufficient evidence to determine if tonsillectomy is effective
