Both are medical doctors: They both have identical training, and specialties. The only difference is that osteopathic physicians take additional coursework in manual medicine to treat pain, and dysfunction, and a year-long anatomy course that helps to understand functional anatomy relationships better, as it applies to disease states, while in medical school. The basic osteopathic philosophy regards the body as an integrated whole with structures and functions working interdependently, versus a disease oriented health care.
