STDs: Show up? Or be able to be tested? Viruses such as hepatitis and HIV can take many weeks, if not months, before routine testing would pick them up. Herpes also can take some time before even the 'early' tests are reliable. Syphilis can take at least six weeks to show symptoms and then testing is difficult early on. So, yes, there are a number of stds that are hard to confirm early on.
