A member asked:

Is thyrocalcitonin an interchangable name for t3 (liothyronine)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Hi. No, they're completely unrelated. Thyrocalcitonin (usu. just called calcitonin) is made by thyroid C cells (which do NOT make thyroid hormone) and is used as a tumor marker for medullary thyroid cancer (e.g., MEN-2 syndromes). T3 (liothyronine) is the active form of thyroid hormone that the body makes from T4.
