ACL injury: If you tear it you generally will hear it "pop" and generally lose strength and collapse. Generally you get swelling about the entire knee and most of the pain will be in the back and outside of the of the knee. Generally the swelling occurs and the knee becomes unstable.

Could be as the-: -injury causing the ACL tear puts stress on secondary stabilizers as-well the PCL, all at the instant that the ACL tears.so often the pain can be global. This can be posterior, but most commonly more laterally. Can also be accompanied by a sentinel fracture off of the lateral plateau @ the outside rim.

Possibly: Examination and an MRI will ultimately determine if indeed acl issues. However, there should be other symptoms also.
