Compression stocking: The condition of livedo reticularis, also called atrophy blanche. The condition is associated 99% of time with underlying vein disease. Congestion of veins in skin causes the ulcers. Relief of the congestionby wearing medical strength compression stockings decreases tendency for ulcers to happen. There is a sulfa drug that can help heal ulcer. See your dermatologist or wound care specialist.

Some medications: Current name is actually livedoid vasculopathy (vasculitis) and it is disease of the small vessels called capillaries. Unlike venous insufficiency as in varicose veins, compression stocking is not effective in preventing ulcerations. Must treat the pro-coagulation tendency + use vasodilating meds..Such as trental (pentoxifylline) or agronox, pletal, and Nifedipine etc..Have been shown to be benefitial. Good luck.

No: The ulceration with associated livedo reticularis is generally the result of poor arterial circulation, and this implies that the blockage in the arteries are already present. Seek medical evaluation and treatment for this. Vasculitis can cause similar changes, and do the same for this.

Dr. Ted King answered

Stay warm: The appearance of livedo reticularis (lr) is thought by some to be related to dilated veins but uncomplicated livedo reticularis is felt to be an essentially benign condition. If someone has atrophy blanche and lr, the lr isn't causing atrophie blanche, chronic venous insufficiency is. If there are ulcers, there is more to it and lupus and antiphospholipid antibodies should be considered.
