The lunula is the: Oval or crescent shaped germinal matrix peeking out under the eponychial fold. Since finger shapes and nail shapes differ, not all have the same size lunula and some can't see it. The structure is there but its covered up by skin in some. So not everyone has a lunula and not everyone has it on all their fingers. Lunula literally means little moon.
