A member asked:

If i was diagnosed with add as a child, do i have to get re-diagnosed again as an adult?

Not necessarily: Adhd is a developmental problem in some of the frontal lobe circuits that result in inattention, distraction, hyperactivity, and impulsivity symptoms. Some kids grow out of the these symptoms as their brain develops. Some grow to be adults with only mild adhd symptoms, while some grow to be adults with similar symptoms, affecting work, home life, relationships. Seeking an evaluation is best.

Yes: Sometimes what looked like add in childhood is an early warning symptom of a different disorder in adulthood, especially anxiety, bipolar disorder, and even ptsd.

Reason ?: The meds used are often controlled substances, requiring a physician to maintain documentation of the need and backing up that opinion with whatever testing or ongoing material can support its use.Failure to do so places that physicians license at risk.
