Public assistance: There are food banks in most larger cities. Many churches provide soup kitchens although some require attendance at religious services. There are offices of public assistance in most major cities. A few survive by dumpster diving particularly in the cans of restaurants. Hopefully the national economy will turn and yours will follow.
