Time: Hopefully, in time, with decreasing hormonal surges (which may persist while breast feeding), the periods will return to normal. If they remain heavy, be sure to follow-up with your gyn dr.. Sometimes, birth control pills can be rx'd by the gyn to help regulate and control the periods too, but an exam would be needed as stated. Best wishes.
